RENO RANKS #3 AMONG NATION'S BEST PLACES TO LIVE

(RENO, Nev.) - For the third consecutive year, Reno, Nev., ranked among America's "50 Best Places to Live" according to Men's Journal. In the April 2005 issue, Reno ranked third as best overall place to live with 255 days of sunshine and its ideal location nestled at the base of the Sierra Nevada in proximity to Lake Tahoe.

The rankings were determined by 50 variables including stress levels, new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau, a greater focus on active lifestyle including an increased emphasis on the amount of wilderness nearby.

Reno improved its ranking this year to third best overall place to live - up from its ranking of eighth last year for best small city to live. Northern Nevada tourism and economic development officials applaud the national recognition northern Nevada receives from notable media such as Men's Journal.

"The ranking further supports the Reno-Tahoe 'America's Adventure Place' marketing campaign in promoting the region as a top-tier travel destination appealing to adventure and leisure travelers alike," said Deanna Ashby, executive director of marketing for the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority (RSCVA). "The inclusion in Men's Journal adds credibility and increases awareness nationwide that Reno-Tahoe is gaming-plus unparalleled outdoor recreation combined with a plethora of entertainment options."

"Quality of life is a deciding factor for companies considering relocating to northern Nevada," said Reed Simmons, chairman of the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). "Economic development and tourism work in tandem since CEOs are looking for what a region has to offer its employees as well as the overall business climate."
