Thomas Miller, CCIM, President

Thomas Miller, CCIM, is the president of Miller Industrial Properties, northern Nevada’s leading industrial real estate brokerage firm. After serving in the United States Army and graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in civil engineering, Tom began his career with Turner Construction Company in 1970. Tom worked his way up to superintendent, a role that made him responsible for all field operations, costs and schedules.

Tom’s industry experience grew in the late 1970s with a position at Coleman, Myers, Williams, where he managed the development of housing tracts. He moved on to CHS, Inc. (now known as Clark and Sullivan) to take a managing position overseeing the development of build-to-suit commercial projects.

In 1980, Tom launched T.M. Miller Construction, Inc. He was the president, general contractor and developer with an unlimited license in general building and general engineering. Tom operated a very profitable small firm with annual sales of approximately $10,000,000. The company was primarily a public works commercial contractor that secured most of its work through the competitive bidding process. Tom oversaw a staff of about 25 and handled most of the daily operations.

Three years later, Krump Construction hired Tom as a contracts manager. He was rapidly promoted to head of development, making him responsible for the profitability and timely completion of all projects. He was promoted again to manager in charge of new business development with responsibilities that included maintaining the firm’s growth, market share and profitability projections. His duties included site evaluation, financing, project pro-forma projections and feasibility studies, overseeing the governmental approval process at both the local and state level, performing the value engineering of a project design, overseeing the designing of a project and monitoring project progress. During his time handling all new contracts at Krump, sales increased tenfold.

In the early 1990s, Tom worked as a broker/salesman with GC Broker to meet the two-year NRS requirement of affiliation with a broker to launch an independent brokerage of his own. In April of 1993, Tom opened Miller Industrial Properties as the owner/broker. He specialized in leasing and sales of warehouse/distributions to users and represented landlords of industrial land, properties and numerous build-to-suit projects. In his 20 years since starting Miller Industrial Properties, Tom has brokered hundreds of industrial transactions in northern Nevada for as many satisfied clients.

On a personal note, Tom is the driver/owner of an ISMA factory-built Porsche race car team. He won national championships in road racing in 2005 and 2006. He also enjoys skiing and holds a certification from the Professional Ski Instructors of America. Tom taught skiing at Tahoe resorts for ten years. He also enjoys mountain and road biking, martial arts, rollerblading, collecting and driving 1960s classic cars, painting and photography.

Tom has more than 40 years of real estate development experience in positions as president/owner, manager/head of business development, contract negotiator manager, estimator, project manager and superintendent for local, regional and international general contracting firms. Tom has been personally involved in projects including airport terminals, apartment and condominium projects, banks, grocery stores, government buildings, high-rise offices, highway construction (CalTrans), hotels, manufacturing facilities, military buildings, medical offices, mining facilities, parking structures, public works projects, restaurants, retail stores, schools and university buildings, shopping centers, single family residential subdivisions and warehouse/distribution facilities.
