Rice Lake Weighing Systems from Wisconsin, contacted Miller Industrial Properties looking for a location in the western US to manufacture large, heavy truck and livestock scales. Rice Lake was considering both Utah and Nevada locations. At the onset of the search process, Utah was in the lead since Rice Lake liked the improved location to their overall potential midwest customer base for their livestock scale products.
When Rice Lake initially came to Nevada, the Governor took time during the hectic final week of legislature to meet with the company personally. The sites they were toured offered a number of potential options that fit their needs. A day later, when Rice Lake was loading into their plane, they mentioned that Nevada was now ‘neck and neck’ with Utah.
As the search process evolved, we kept in close contact with the client and made sure we answered all their questions. Along with the support of Northern Nevada Development Authority and NV Energy and the Governors offices Rice Lake slowly determined that Nevada was the more receptive location to their firm.
Rice Lake’s ownership mentioned to me numerous times that Nevada has really bent over backwards to win their business, offering an extremely streamlined process to get up and running in the state.
